Persons that works with digital security foreshadows that we will get attacked with more spam and malware (Malicious Software), when they look into their crystal to see what 2009 will bring. The biggest threat would most likely be the little evil trojans, which the criminal networks swarms the net with, with hopes to get our credit card numbers with.
The trojans creators are very effective too. They coordinate their releases to the rate in which the antivirus companies releases their updates, usually every half hours. So, it’s like a never ending war, which will get even harder in 2009.
The massive amount of spam, that constantly fills up the net, like blood clot, are also going to increase. Even though we got a grace period, when the hosting company McColo where shoot down, a few months ago. It was estimated that McColo’s customers where the cause to around 70% of all the spam and many botnets, on top of that. Nevertheless, without much doubt, there will be other shady hosting companies that will take over, where McColo ended their journey.
Even so, there are simple things that you could do, to prevent your computer to be infected or harmed, by virus, malware or intruders. Here are some advice, which will help you in the fight for digital security throughout 2009.
First priority is to install a good and proven antivirus software. There are many out there that are both good and reliable, so do a couple of searches and read tests and reviews of the ones that you choose. I use NOD32 Antivirus from Eset, myself and I have never had any problems with it, nor have I got my computer infected. Another one that I have heard only positive feedback on is, Kaspersky Security for Internet Gateway 7.0
.
Second, get yourself a solid firewall. Do yourself a big favor and at least get a software firewall like, ZoneAlarm, you could check it by follow this link, Download ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite and Save $20
The best thing though, is a hardware based firewall, don’t rely on just the built in firewall in Windows.
Third and last, be suspicious and think twice before you click anything. Never install something that just pop-up on a website and that you didn’t expect or asked for. The same goes for e-mail attachments, never ever open them, unless you are 100% of it contains. Remember that there are malware that can send mails from your friend’s computer that contains trojans, without their knowledge!
