An alternative to Firefox

Opera 10I recently gave up on Windows and switched to Linux. I decided to go with the flavor that I have the most experience with, Ubuntu.

In this post, I will not get into the details to why I decided to leave Windows. That will be a post of its own, in the near future.

Nevertheless, Ubuntu 9.10 worked right out of the box on my system. I just needed to do one adjustment to remedy a minor problem, but besides that, everything has worked like a charm.

However, Ubuntu ships with just one browser, one that I’m not that found of – Firefox, which I think is too heavy on everything from resources to how it behaves, which is not to my liking.

On Windows, I had the opportunity to surf the web with Google Chrome, which I really enjoyed working with, as it fit my surfing style like a glove.

Unfortunately, Chrome is not available for Ubuntu, right now, anyway. However, the people behind Chrome are working on a Linux version, but it will probably take some time, until we’ll see a stable release, though.

Therefore, I have searched around for a true alternative to Firefox and stumbled upon, Opera. It has been years since I surfed with Opera, but from what I remember, I liked it, since it managed to display the sites a lot faster, then the other browsers back then, and it had a slick design. However, this must have been at least five years ago, I stopped using because it was unstable, from time to time.

However, now Opera has come with its 10th version and I guess that it will be much more stable now, than it was a few years ago. Therefore, I have decided to give Opera a real spin this weekend, to see if it will give Firefox a fight about which will rule on my computer. I will, post the result and my decision here, afterwards for you to read.

If you run Opera 10 on your system, please share your thoughts about it, both good and bad, in the comments below.
